3D print from a generated photograph, painted by hand, in the shared diorama
The station as the archive describes it in its later years: the platform covered in ivy, an S-train carriage left on the platform above, the letters of the name replaced one at a time in whatever colour was to hand. Bicycles still parked against the glass.
Nothing here was modelled by hand. One generated photograph went through TripoSplat, the newest open-weight image-to-3D model available to me, which reads a single view and gives back a Gaussian splat and a mesh. What comes out is honest about itself: the side the picture showed is sharp, the side it never saw is complete "guesswork" on the model's part, and the ivy is one fused surface rather than leaves. It was printed as it came, guesses and all, then painted by hand and covered in small foam bits, so its appearance sits somewhere between handmade and digital.
It stands in the diorama at the centre of the room, where model trains run through a landscape built out of the artists' works. The train passes it like any other station on the line.
The archive it accompanies is 212 exhibitions at Sydhavn Station between 2027 and 2053, in a future where the S-train has stopped running and the city around the station has moved away. The station itself is lived in, farmed and used. An optimistic story about the staying power of artist-run spaces: this place gets by because people keep making things together.
Ind med 4 toget is at Udstillingsstedet Sydhavn Station, Ernst Kapers Vej 1, Copenhagen SV, Thursday to Sunday 13.00 to 17.00, until 15 Nov 2026. It is the first show in Copenhagen by Kunstnersammenslutningen Jylland since the association was founded in 1978 - 30 artists - and my first since I joined last year. The title is the old Copenhagen phrase for someone arriving green from the provinces on the four o'clock train. More about the association: ksjylland.dk The venue itself: sydhavnstation.info
All 212 exhibitions, with text and images: oerum.org/sydhavn
Last post from this one. The show and the site both come down on 15 Nov.
the texts are written by Qwen2.5-14B, fine-tuned with a LoRA on the venue's own archive of 212 exhibition texts. The images are made with FLUX.2 [klein] 9B and a LoRA trained on the venue's own 2,093 photographs; each image takes its geometry from a real documentation photo through a depth map, so the room is the same while everything else is invented. The 3D model is made with TripoSplat, which turns a single image into a Gaussian splat and a mesh; the mesh was printed as it came. All of it runs locally on one graphics card with open weight models, on wind power.
My work is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. The exhibition is supported by Poul Johansen Fonden, Lizzi og Mogens Staal Fonden, Kgs. Enghave Lokaludvalg and the City of Copenhagen. Posters and billboard are supported by 15. Juni Fonden through Sydhavn Station.
