"Sucker Trick" is a collaboration between visual artist Kristoffer Ørum, magician Claus Mulbjerg, and architect Tomas Skovgaard. The installation was part of Overgaden's REVISIT format, responding to the exhibition "EROTIK" which took place at Overgaden in 1989.
The work featured a large, curved canvas onto which the magician's hands were projected. A "Sucker Trick" is a magic trick where the magician offers false clues to hide what they are actually doing. The installation explored connections between magic, architecture, and eroticism through practices of showing and hiding.
The work referenced Gustave Courbet's 1866 painting "L'Origine du monde", which was kept hidden behind a curtain for over a century. The installation examined how concealment can create tension between what is covered and potentially uncovered.
"REVISIT: EROTIK" revisited Overgaden's 1989 "EROTIK" exhibition, which featured 48 female photographers and drew 100,000 visitors. The 2017 version included male artists and moved away from explicit imagery toward more abstract works.
