what does it mean to have a body? how does this body exist in our consciousness? how is this body affected in data space?

jacob remin takes over captive portal from january 4th to january 17th 2024 for the show ”data recovery” establishing a pop-up space for healing bodies and healing hardware.

"data recovery" is centred around the virtual reality piece “a body of data”, made from point cloud recordings of a sauna ritual, recorded during jacob remin’s residency at RIXC rural laboratory in the summer of 2018. these point cloud recordings were later developed into the VR piece “a body of data”, which speaks of bodies in various forms, discussed from the perspective of an artificial intelligence in the future trying to explain to a younger generation what it meant to have a body; the intricate connections between body and mind. specifically, the ritual of what humans used to call "sauna" is being discussed. why did we expose our bodies to the extreme conditions connected with the rituals of sauna: cold, heat, snow, steam, birch branch flagellantism and meditations? how did these extreme rituals affect our body, and how did these actions translate to our consciousness?

the thematic of the exhibition is further explored in a guided meditation session by visual artist sidsel christensen (NO/DK) on sunday the 7th of january 2024 from 11:00 to 13:00. entry is free. food / snacks will be served.

this exhibition is kindly supported by the danish arts council, RIXC and nordische botschaften.
